Task Scheduler:

This podcast covers the task automation that can be performed by Task Scheduler as well as detailed setup information about the new Network Monitor utility introduced in SolidWorks 2009 SP4. Topics covered:

- Introduction

- Available tasks

- Task Options

- Network Monitor setup & configuration

- Exporting PDFs

- Boosting performance for lightweight assemblies

- Exporting data from within PDM

I had not talked about Task Scheduler since March 27th, 2006 back in episode 13 (which back then was DDi Tech Tip #7) and with the launch of SolidWorks 2009 SP4 and the new Network Monitor, it was time for a refresh.  Task Scheduler was introduced back in SolidWorks 2004 and every year receives some new tasks that can be run.  This is one of my favorite utilities due to it's "Set it and forget it" nature however it is often forgotten by many users.

This past week I also tested out the Network Monitor capability and ran it on a few "Convert Files" tasks and it was extremely quick.  Setup was straightforward but did require using IP addresses and disabling the software firewall.  I hope to see this capability grow and applied to more tasks than just file conversion in future releases! ~Lou

*** The earlier download ended up pulling the wrong link and put the March 27, 2006 cast instead of the one I recorded last night.  I have corrected it now so the feed should be right. Sorry about that. It was a late night! ~Lou
