2010 Migration Tools:

This podcast covers the tools available to migrate your active SolidWorks data to the 2010 format whether it resides locally, on the network and even within PDM. Topics covered:

- Converting local files with Task Scheduler

- Converting network files utilizing Network Monitor

- Converting data within Workgroup PDM

- Converting data within Enterprise PDM

Hopefully you are all enjoying the long Labor Day weekend (US) and not thinking about SolidWorks. However, with the release of SolidWorks 2010 now just weeks around the corner, the process of migrating your "in-process" files (WIP) to the new version's file format is a task many of us don't want to think about. This typically involves the conversion of files on your system, your network and possibly inside your PDM tool.  Today I thought I could touch on some of the tools available with SolidWorks to convert your files regardless where they reside.

A few weeks back I touched on all the capabilities of Task Scheduler and how two of the tasks available were conversion tasks, one outside and one inside SolidWorks Workgroup PDM.  There is also a tool for converting data to the current release within SolidWorks Enterprise PDM that I also wanted to cover.

At the end of the show I share some feedback about the hosted server for 2010 Enterprise PDM that SolidWorks announced for beta testing.  I encourage you to get signed up if you need to test the next version of EPDM in order to make the process as easy as possible. ~Lou
